featured application
permafrost stability monitoring

Located at an altitude of 3317 meters on the border between Italy and Switzerland, along an exchange route already used by Roman travelers, Rifugio Teodulo sits on a rocky slope with permafrost. Climate change and other stress factors make its structure, dating back to 1920, particularly vulnerable to instability.
Thanks to our photo-based virtual sensors, it is possible to capture precise 3D measurements of ground displacement and structural cracks using just a smartphone camera, eliminating the need for expensive hardware, wiring, or unreliable equipment.
Straintest's technology powers the advanced structural analysis performed by our partner macroDIAGNOSTICS. By combining our precise and long-term strain measurements with timely vibrational analyses, our engineering partner can provide a comprehensive understanding of this fast-changing and extreme environment.
